The Amaryllis will bloom within approximately 4 weeks of planting, and can be in Bloom for Thanksgiving Day or Christmas. Our Amaryllis are a perfect choice for indoor winter forcing. They brighten your home during cold winter months with their huge, long lasting flowers with a minimal care. Pot the bulbs in a 6 inch wide pot using a good qualiy soil-less potting mix, and place in a warm, sunny window and in no time you'll have a gorgeous living floral bouquet.

Amaryllis

PDF GuideDownload as PDF
  1. Select a deep pot about 2″ wider than the bulb and fill about half full with rich potting soil.
  2. Place the bulb in the center and fill in around the bulb until about ⅔ of the bulb is covered leaving the top ⅓ of the bulb above the soil. Press the soil down thoroughly to anchor the bulb and water thoroughly.
  3. Place the pot in a room that is about 70⁰ that receives full sun. Water sparingly only when the soil is dry to the touch until a stem appears; water more after the leaves and bud appear.

The large majestic flowers of the Amaryllis and the ease with which they can be brought into bloom have made them extremely popular and in demand especially during the winter holiday season. Colors range from the ever-popular red and white to pink, orange, salmon, and even some striped varieties.

Amaryllis bloom within 7-10 weeks of planting, which should be considered if the plants will be used for decorative purposes within the home.

Remove the stalk once the flowers have faded and continue to water regularly and fertilize monthly through August. When the leaves begin to yellow, cut them back to about 2″ above the top of the bulb, remove the bulb from the soil, and store it in a cool (40-50⁰) place for at least 6 weeks. If storing the bulb in the crisper of a refrigerator, do not store with apples, as this will sterilize the bulb. Replant the bulb following the steps above about 8 weeks before blooms are desired.
