Daylily is the general nonscientific name of the genus Hemerocallis. The name Hemerocallis comes from the Greek words ἡμέρα (hēmera) "day" and καλός (kalos) "beautiful". The flower normally lasts for 24 hours, opening during the day and withering away at night being replaced the next day with a new flower, therefore earning the traditional name of Daylily. With all the different varieties, you can enjoy blooms from Summer until frost in a variety of colors.
